The world of chess is in grief as IM Nino Khurtsidze, one of the most talented players of her generation, succumbed to illness. She died yesterday at the age of 42.

Nino Khurtsidze 1975–2018

1991 she won the U16 Girls’ World Championship

1992 she became U20 European champion and U18 Vice World Champion of the girls

In 1993 and 1995 she was first in the Girls U20 World Championships, and second in 1994

Georgian national champion among women five times: 1989, 1993, 2005, 2006 and 2013

In 1998, she even won the Georgian national championships in open competition
